ஆவணி மாசத்திய அமாவாசைக்கு முன்பு வருகிற பௌர்ணமி;யை ச்ராவணீ என்று சொல்வார்கள்.
அதில் யஜுர்வேதிகள் உபாகர்மத்தைச் செய்யவேணும். பன்னிரண்டு நாழிகைக்கு மேல் பதினாறு நாழிகைக்குள்ளாக
பூர்ணிமையும், ப்ரதமையும் சேர்ந்தால் அன்றைய தினத்திலேயே உபாகர்மத்தையும் காயத்ரீ ஜபத்தையும் செய்யவேண்டும்.
மற்ற ஸமயங்களில் பன்னிரண்டு நாழிகை முடிய இருக்கும் பௌர்ணமியில் உபாகர்மமும் மறுநாள் காயத்ரீ ஜபமும் பண்ணவேண்டும்.

Sama upakarma, Rig Upakarma
The Powrnami which comes before the Amavasya of Aavani is called “Shraavanee”. Yajurvedin’s should do the “Upakarma” on that day. If Powrnami and Prathama meets between 12 Naazhigai and 16 Naazhigai, (i.e, between 10.45 am and 12.21 noon approximately) then both Upakarma and Gayathri japa should be performed on the same day. Otherwise the Gayathri Japam should be done on the next day as usual.
‘Uthsarjana akarana praayachithartham kamokarsheet manyurakaarsheet ithi mantra japam karishye’ with this sankalpa, one should do 1008 times Kamokaarsheet japa within six naazhis (approx - before 8.25 am).
Then should undergo for a Sarva Anga (all limps) Kshavaram. As this is listed (prescribed) as a part of this karma, no thithi, vaara dhosham to be checked for this.
"Rig Upakarma"
Rig Vedhins should do upakarma on shravana star of shravana month or in the day which the hastham star and Powrnami thithi are present.
"Sama Upakarma"
In the month of Proshtapatha (Aavani - Purattasi), on the day in which Panchami and Hastha star present is the day for Sama vedhins to do Upakarma.
